Summary:

"At today's session, the government approved the document National Strategy of Open Access to Scientific Publications and Research Data in Slovenia 2015-2020. The main purpose of the strategy is to set up open access to scientific information in the form of reviewed publications and research data, which are produced as part of a nationally funded research activity, and to scientific journals and monographs that are co-financed with government funding. They are to be exempt from payment for access and reuse. In addition, there should be web access to all available scientific information without any costs to users and their long-term storage should be ensured.    Open access to scientific publications and research data improves access to the results of publically funded research and their visibility, accelerates research activities, promotes scientific productivity and disseminates knowledge. The results of publically funded research should be openly accessible not only to researchers but also to all potential users in education, business and industry, the public sector, charities and the general public."
