Summary:

The University of Virginia was one of the earliest American institutions to focus on digitizing books and manuscripts for access and research. Etext—the UVA Electronic Text Center (1992–2007)—was founded as a way to organize and scale efforts to digitize large amounts of the UVA Library’s special collections and other materials.
