Summary:

Sci-Hub is a highly controversial website that provides free access to more than 50 million scientific research papers from around the world.  Created in 2011 by a graduate student in Kazakhstan, Sci-Hub is viewed by the publishing community and many authorities as a major pirate of copyright protected material.  At the same time, the site is seen by much of the global scientific research community, particularly that part of the community located in less affluent nations, as an essential source of information vital for effective education and research.
